Expert Guidance for SFOC Applications & Compliance

Important Clarifications Upfront

🚨SFOCs are no longer a simple paperwork submission.  Transport Canada now requires operators to actively demonstrate operational readiness.
🚨 Mandatory in-person interviews are now part of the approval process.
🚨 Canada-wide SFOCs are not available – all inital approvals are site-specific.

Key Changes in the Transport Canada SFOC Process

Who We Work With

🚀 Enterprise UAV Operators – Scaling drone operations with BVLOS & Large RPAS compliance needs.
🏗 Mining, Energy & Infrastructure Firms – Using UAVs for asset inspection, volumetrics, and environmental monitoring.
🏛 Government & Public Sector Agencies – Municipalities, environmental agencies, and emergency response teams.
🌎 International UAV Companies Expanding to Canada – Foreign operators needing full regulatory support for Transport Canada SFOCs.

📩 Contact DCS today to ensure your UAV operations meet Transport Canada’s highest standards.

  • Mandatory In-Person Interview – Transport Canada requires applicants to demonstrate a working knowledge of their Concept of Operations (CONOPS), risk mitigations, and safety protocols. If the applicant cannot provide detailed answers, the SFOC will not be approved.
  • Site-Specific Risk Assessments – Transport Canada no longer issues general approvals. Each SFOC application must be tailored to the exact flight location, with a detailed risk mitigation strategy.

Canada-Wide SFOCs Are Not Available

DCS can assist in obtaining site-specific Transport Canada approvals, but if your company is seeking a Canada-wide SFOC, we will not be able to assist, as this is not legally viable. Transport Canada only awards Canada-wide SFOCs to RPAS operators with an established history of safe and compliant operations. First-time applicants and those without a strong compliance record must apply for site-specific approvals before being considered for broader operational permissions.

DCS provides comprehensive regulatory consulting to help clients successfully obtain Transport Canada SFOCs. Our services include:

Regulatory compliance strategy and SFOC structuring
Full application development (CONOPS, risk mitigation plans, etc.)
Training and interview preparation to ensure successful Transport Canada review

The DCS Consulting Approach

Licensing & Intellectual Property Protections

All regulatory methodologies, documentation, and risk mitigation strategies developed by DCS are proprietary and subject to licensing protections.

  • SFOC applications, operational procedures, and supporting materials developed by DCS may not be shared, copied, or used outside the approved scope without explicit authorization.
  • DCS retains intellectual property rights over proprietary regulatory frameworks, compliance methodologies, and operational risk assessments used in our consultation.
  • Clients receive a license for approved use of documentation strictly within the scope of their specific SFOC application.

Pricing & Industry Benchmarking

For reference, in the U.S., FAA Part 107 BVLOS waivers typically cost operators between $40,000 and $75,000 USD due to extensive documentation, risk assessments, and operational requirements. Transport Canada’s compliance process is significantly more rigorous, requiring advanced safety case development and operational validation.

Our consulting services are priced based on the complexity of your specific operational approval. If your goal is simply the lowest-cost application submission, we may not be the right fit. However, if you require expert regulatory guidance to ensure a successful approval, we’d be happy to discuss next steps.
